The Centre for Automation and Robotic Engineering Science (CARES) of the University of Auckland and the New Dexterity research team of the Department of Mechanical Engineering
invite you to an event focusing on state-of-the-art robotics, automation, and biomechatronics technologies.
The demonstrations will include:
i) a robot arm detecting and removing fruitlets from a model tree (Dr. Henry Williams and Prof. Bruce MacDonald)
ii) an intelligent robotic platform executing cleaning and tidying up tasks (New Dexterity)
iii) soft, wearable robotic exoskeleton gloves (New Dexterity)
iv) robotic and prosthetic hands (New Dexterity)
v) a large canopy sampling drone (Dr. Karl Stol)
vi) all-terrain robotic vehicles (New Dexterity)
vii) social and healthcare robots (Dr. Ho Seok Ahn)
viii) an automation kit for manufacturing (Prof. Kean Aw)
ix) a bioinspired soft robotic stomach (Prof. Peter Xu)
x) fully automatic industrial workcell using KUKA robots (Dr. Yuqian Lu & Prof. Xun Xu)
xi) retrofitting for cloud based and interactive robot control (Dr. Yuqian Lu & Prof. Xun Xu)
xii) connecting robots to a cloud-control system for task execution in cluttered spaces (Dr. Yuqian Lu & Prof. Xun Xu)
The event will also contain an Acoustics Experience, involving several displays demonstrating the physics of acoustics and the research conducted at UoA. We will also run tours from the display location to the Acoustics Laboratories at 3 pm and 5 pm. In these tours we will present our "Acoustics Experience" within our unique facilities. Attendees will be able to experience the anechoic chamber - a room without echoes which we believe to be the "quietest place in New Zealand" - and one of our reverberation rooms, where the highly reflective interior surfaces of the room cause echoes which last for several seconds.
Indicative videos of the research projects that will be presented.
